The 2008-9 School Year welcomed the students back with a new course added to the St. Mary HS Course Offerings. Returning veteran teacher, Anna DiMeo is the Curriculum Advisor for an Experiencing Music Program. By the end of the year, students will have an overview of the historical evolution of Western Music as we know it in the 21st Century. They will learn fundamental theory, notation and musical terms.
Musical experiences include the fundamentals of how music is produced, singing, basic keyboard fingering, performance and an introductory knowledge of how a variety of instruments make music. Through Mrs. DiMeo’s music studies at Montclair State University, college and graduate
students are assisting students in their musical journey. They introduce the students to many aspects of music including the elements of composition and music therapy.
The seven students –enrolled in Experiencing Music- have formed an ensemble made up of piano, violin, drums, flute and voice. Their debut was a welcomed part of the Freshmen Night of Togetherness. These talented students are eager to enhance their music skills in a world where music is recognized as a universal language that speaks to the heart and has the power to heal.
