The Homecoming Weekend was another tremendous Alumni Success. On Friday
Forty-four golfers kicked off the weekend at the Thomas Holden golf classic. The
alumni and friends were treated to September like weather conditions and enjoyed
a beautiful day of golf while reminiscing with old friends. The cocktail hour
included a heartfelt tribute to Tom Holden by classmate and friend Marty
McGonigle.
Saturday morning pre-game mass attracted forty members of the reunion class
of 1958. The alums then joined the team for breakfast and a tour of their alma
mater. The halls and bell tower of St. Mary H.S were once again alive with names
and stories of a time in its rich history.
Although the weather did not cooperate, an enthusiastic crowd of 750
students, parents and alumni braved the Gael Storm weather conditions for the
Homecoming football game. In a hard fought game, the Gaels came up short 14-6.
Seniors Justyn Cruz and Patrick Manning stood out with relentless play and were
awarded The Thomas Holden MVP Trophy.
Sunday brought two-hundred and ten alumni and friends to the Hilton in
Hasbrouck Heights for the 13th annual Hall of Fame Banquet. Principal Roy Corso
addressed the packed house which included the inductee's of the state
championship baseball and softball teams of 1998. St. Mary H.S remains the only
school in the state of NJ to win two state championship titles on the same day.
Thanks to those who were a part of Homecoming "08! Let's do it again next
year! Go Gaels!!
