In what is sure to be a major contribution to securing St. Mary's High School future a Board of Directors has been formed. The level of success that these alumni and friends of St. Mary's High School have attained is second to none. From professions in business, service to the arts, education, and athletics, we now have the ability to solicit advice and direction from some of the most accomplished people in the country. They have been chosen and agreed to help because they have a common bond, St. Mary's High School.

The addition of the Board of Directors adds strength to an already strong team of dedicated administrators, faculty, parents and students. All you need to do is read the brief biographies of these people and you can see and feel their achievements. Their expertise is now going to be gathered and utilized by our high school in planning and securing our future.

Who Are The Bord Of Directors?

Richard J. Allen '74

Richard J. Allen, Jr. ("Dick") is a graduate of St. Mary's High School (Class of 1974) and St. Mary's Elementary School (Class of 1970). He received a Bachelor of Arts degree, cum laude, from Seton Hall University in 1978 and a Juris Doctor degree, with honors, from Seton Hall Law School in 1981. He currently practices law at Kipp & Allen, L.L.P. in Rutherford, a law firm with roots that go back to 1882.

Mr. Allen has represented both individuals and the North Jersey business community - providing legal services in the areas of Estate Planning, Wills and Trusts, Real Estate Transactions, including leases, exchanges, zoning and planning, Business Law, Nonprofit Organizations, Government Law, Litigation and Appeals.

As a practicing lawyer, Mr. Allen also served as an instructor of Business Law at St. Peter's College in Jersey City, New Jersey. From 1993 through 1997, Mr. Allen was counsel to the State Senator representing the 36th Legislative District comprised of parts of Bergen, Passaic and Essex counties.

Mr. Allen was elected to the office of Councilman in the Borough of Rutherford and served through 2000. He also served on the Borough's Planning Board.

David V. Calviello '87

David Calviello was an inspirational, dynamic, five-sport athlete during St. Mary's tumultuous years of the mid-1980's.

Following his graduation from St. Mary, David received his B.A. in politics from Catholic University, served internships with members of the British House of Commons and the U.S. Congress and completed his J.D. from Seton Hall Law School in 1996. David has served on the St. Mary Hall of Fame Committee, and as St. Mary Mock Trial Attorney Advisor since 1997. He currently serves the citizens of Bergen County as an Assistant Prosecutor in the Sex Crimes and Child Abuse Squad.

John A. Calvo '87

John is a 1987 graduate of St. Mary High School. While at SMHS, along with fellow Board member Dave Calviello, John was a member of the 1987 state championship Mock Trial Team.

After SMHS, John attended New York University where he earned his undergraduate and law degrees. Since graduating, he has been an active member of the New York University Alumni Association; he currently serves as one of the Association's Vice Presidents. John is currently Senior Counsel with Bayer HealthCare in Wayne, NJ. Prior to joining Bayer, John was an associate in the Princeton, NJ office of Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP and an associate in the New York, NY office of Brobeck, Phleger & Harrison LLP.

John is an active SMHS alumnus. He has helped organize his class' 10, 15 and 20 year reunions. And for the past six years, John has volunteered as an attorney coach for the St. Mary High School Mock Trial Team which competes interscholastically as part the New Jersey State Bar Foundation's Vincent J. Apruzzese Mock Trial Competition.

John is married to Beth Calhoun; John and Beth first met in the seventh grade at St. Mary's

Robert E. Campbell '51

Robert is a retired Vice Chairman of The Board of Directors of Johnson & Johnson (J&J) where he also was Chairman of the Professional Sector. Campbell joined J&J in 1955 and later served as an Air Force officer for three years, rejoining the Company in 1959. During his career he held numerous positions in financial and general management including Treasurer, Vice President Finance, and Executive Committee Member.

Robert is Chairman of The Cancer Institute of New Jersey and a Trustee and past Chairman of the Board of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. He is a member of the Advisory Council for the College of Science of the University of Notre Dame and serves on the Rutgers University Business Board of Advisors. He also is a member of the Board of Parker Memorial Home, The NUN Foundation, and an Overseer of The Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. He ia also a past Chairman and current Trustee Emeritus of the Board of Trustees of Fordham University.

A graduate of Fordham University, Mr. Campbell earned an MBA degree at Rutgers University. He is also the recipient of honorary doctorate degrees from Fordham University and the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey.

Steven Cuccinelli

Steve is a graduate of Hudson Catholic High School and Upsala College. Steve has been in technology sales and fiance for the past twenty-five years. He is currently a sales executive for CIT Group, Rutherford, New Jersey.

A member of St. Mary Parish, Steve was a member of St. Mary School Middle States Committee, as well as a member of St. Mary New Energy Committee.

Steve resides in Rutherford with his wife Sheila and their five children. Sheila (SMHS Class of 2003), Seton Hall University; Steven (SMHS Class of 2005), Villanova University; Ryan (SMHS Class of 2007), St. Jospeh University; Amy (SMHS Class of 2010); and Connor (SMHS Class of 2013).

Thomas G. Ferguson '59

Tom embarked on business career after graduating from Fairleigh Dickinson University in 1964 working as a customer service representative for Becton-Dickinson & Co. This was the beginning of his venture into the healthcare industry. He was later employed by two leading healthcare advertising agencies.

In 1974 Tom founded Thomas G. Ferguson Associates, which grew into Ferguson Communications Group Inc. In 1990, his Company was acquired by WPP, plc., and with Tom as Chairman and CEO the Company evolved into CommonHealth USA, the largest healthcare marketing and communications resource in the world. As Chairman Emeritus since 1998, Tom serves in an advisory capacity.

Tom has received innumerable humanitarian awards for his undying service to both community and charitable organizations. In addition he has been a member and chaired the boards of numerous academic institutions. He is presently serving on the Board of the University of Notre Dame.

Through Tom's and his late wife Roberta's generosity to St. Mary's High School, it has been possible to install new science laboratories and renovate the existing gymnasium. He was inducted into the St. Mary's Athletic Hall of Fame in 1999 as a Contributor.

Frank P. Gallagher '61

Frank graduated from St. Mary High School in 1961 and went on to attend Virginia Tech University where he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration. Frank was president of Community Coach, Passaic, NJ from 1985- 1998, and was also president of NJ Motor Bus Association from 1978-1998.

Frank was also one of the founders, Chairman of the Board and CEO of Coach, USA. He was a member of the Board for Stagecoach Holdings PLC, Perth, Scotland from 2000-2002. Presently retired, Frank currently sits on the Board of AEP Industries, Hackensack, New Jersey.

Vincent P. Mariano '41

Vincent served honorably in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was stationed in the Pacific. Upon his discharge he attended Providence College (another Catholic institution) and graduated in 1950. He married Louise Lennox of Rutherford in 1948 and together they had seven children. Janet '68, David '70 and Richard '72 graduated from Saint Mary. Danny graduated from Lyndhurst High School and Joanne, Vinnie, Jr. and Joy graduated from Rutherford High School.

Vincent Mariano has long been a generous contributor to Saint Mary. He has said on many occasions, "I never want to see a child deprived of a Catholic education due to lack of money." Through Vinnie's generosity and benevolence many young men and women have received the financial assistance needed to get that Catholic education.

The genesis of this belief goes back to Vincent's childhood. His parents, Bridget Moran, born and raised in Rutherford, and his father Michael, a very successful builder, lost almost everything they had during the depression. It was members of Saint Mary Parish that came to the aid of the Mariano family and provided Vincent, his two brothers and two sisters with a Catholic education. Vinnie has never forgotten that.

Vinnie's very successful business career spanned over 50 years as an Insurance Professional with Allstate Insurance Co. He parlayed that success into his own agency in 1981. He retired and sold his agency in 1992.

A past treasurer of Saint Mary Alumni Association and an organizing member of the school's 50th Anniversary Committee and the Thomas Diffily Scholarship, to this day Vinnie continues to support Saint Mary. He is one of several Alumni that stepped forward after hearing of the Capital Campaign and said he wanted to participate as one of the "Campaign Challengers". This select group has pooled their monies for the purpose of a Campaign Challenge that will match each and every alumni contribution, dollar for dollar.

Martin B. McGonigle '59

Marty attended St. Peters College in Jersey City and graduated in 1963 with a B.S. in Marketing. He had a 40 year career in sales and marketing, along with holding executive positions in the packaging industry.

His career began as a sales and marketing rep with the American Can Corporation where he worked for 30 years. During that time he also attended classes in Global Marketing at Columbia University and the General Electric School of Management. He attended various seminars, including Karras' Art of Negotiation. He was President of Sales and Marketing for Zapata Industries and Aquanautics Inc. along with a variety of executive positions with other companies in the same industry until he retired in 2004.

John McMaster '74

After graduating from St. Mary's High School, John earned his BS in Business Administration from Manhattan College in 1978. He completed his MA in Political Science at New York University, attending classes at night while working for AT&T. He also has a PMD degree from the Harvard Business School. John moved quickly up the corporate ladder and later to the AT&T London office where he became familiar with European Telecommunication practice and was named CEO of a joint venture between KPN telecom and Quest Communication International responsible for setting up Internet Services throughout Europe. He is presently CEO of LSSi a Data Base Management firm in New Jersey.

John has been very supportive to his alma mater and as well as The Bill "Moose" Young Memorial Scholarship Fund.

Ed Ryan '75

Ed is the owner of Ryan Financial, where tax and financial services have been offered since 1992. He is a registered representative of HD Vest Investment Securities, a wholly owned subsidiary of Wells Fargo Bank. Prior to starting Ryan Financial, Ed worked for Investors Insurance Group (IIG) for 17 years as Vice President/Controller. He graduated Providence College in 1979.

Ed resides in Rutherford with his wife and four children. He is very active in the community, serving as trustee of the Rutherford Public Library, trustee of the Williams Center, member of the St. Mary's Parish Finance Committee and member of the Rutherford Chamber of Commerce. He also served as President of the Rutherford Downtown Partnership, a downtown management and revitalization organization from 2001 through 2005.

Philip F. Sheridan '61

A member of the St. Mary's graduating class of 1961, Phil attended the University of Notre Dame. He was a member of the 1964 National Championship football team and he captained the1965 football team under legendary coach Ara Parsigian. After graduating in 1966 with a B.A. in Political Science, Phil attended Seton Hall Law School and received his JD degree in 1969. He then served as a judicial clerk for the Honorable Thomas O'Brien, J.S.C. and the Honorable Arthur Simpson, J.S.C. Phil was admitted to the New Jersey Bar Association in 1970. Phil is a Sr. Partner at the law offices of Herten, Burstein, Sheridan, Cevasco, Bottinelli, Litt, Toskos, and Harz, L.L.C., where he specializes in Civil Law. He is a member of the Bergen County Bar Association and also a former Trustee and past President. He has also served as a Municipal Prosecutor and presently serves as a Municipal Judge of Ridgewood, NJ and is on the New Jersey Supreme Court Advisory Committee on Professional Ethics.

Phil has remained an active alumnus of St. Mary's High School, attending yearly alumni events. He is vice-chairman of The George Vuyosevich Memorial Foundation which funded the interior gym renovation. He was inducted into the St. Mary's H.S. Athletic Hall of Fame in 1994.

Allan J. Tulp '77

As excellent student-athlete. Allan chose to attend Princeton University where he played football and graduated Cum Laude with a BA degree in Political Economy.

Allan is the Managing Director and Head of Trading Risk for Morgan Stanley's Tax Exempt Securities Division. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of Saint Mary High School and the Upper Montclair Country Club, and a recognized benefactor donor for the Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital at Columbia Presbyterian in New York City.

Allan is the proud father of Lauren, 18, who attends the University of Southern California and Kimberly, 16, and Austin, 15, who are at Ramapo High School.

Patricia Zeppieri '74

Pat graduated with the class of 1974 and went on to attend Bauder College in Florida. A career in the hospitality business took her to the slopes of Stowe and Sugarbush, Vermont where she held positions in resort and event management. Upon her return to New Jersey, Pat joined the Foundation of Hackensack University Medical Center as the Director of Special Event Fundraising. From there, she went on to Hoffman-LaRoche where she played a vital role in the Community Affairs department, managing a nationwide United Way campaign effort. Pat is presently the Assistant to the President & CEO of a local supply chain management and investment recovery firm.

Pat, along with her husband Frank, class of '74, has been active in supporting alumni events and most recently chaired the committee for St. Mary's High School 75th Jubilee Celebration.
