Quadree Hubbard rushed for two touchdowns and a pair of two-point conversions as St. Mary defeated Morristown-Beard, 30-7, Sunday in a Non-Public Group 1 semifinal battle. "We played well," St. Mary coach Mike Sheridan said. "We came out ready to play. I thought we got on them early and kept the pressure on. I was really happy with all phases of the game". Hubbard, a freshman tailback, carried 10 times for 70 yards. His two TDs give him 10 for the season along with six two point conversions.
Junior quarterback Mike Santos was 5-for-7 for 70 yards and threw his fourth and fifth TDs of the season. He tossed a 15-yard score in the first
quarter to sophomore Jeremy Thomas and a 35-yarder in the second quarter to junior Andrew Spanarkel.
The Gaels stingy defense allowed only a second-quarter TD and were led by LB Paul Ruddy and DT Justyn Cruz. Cruz's interception of a screen pass set up the Gaels final score.
The Gaels are now 7-2 heading into another state final showdown with 8-1 Paterson Catholic.
The two schools have met twice in the finals twice in the last three years. Both teams have one win
a piece. The rubber match is set.
