In a 40-0 victory against the Weehawken Indians, the Gaels took control from the first play. On the third play of the game, Kyree Tyson ran the ball down field for a 53-yard touchdown run, his first of 2 scores in the game. To go along with the tough running game the defense played exceptionally well. Senior Kevin Mustac, led the Gaels defense with 4 sacks, a forced fumble, and a total of 9 tackles.

In a 33-0 Gaels homecoming victory against the Vikings, the Gaels shut down the Vikings in both phases. With this win, the Gaels move to 4-1 on the season. John Barret led the Gaels defense with 6 sacks and a total of 11 tackles. Kyree Tyson also led the offense with a total of 175 yards and 2 touchdowns.

In Friday night’s battle against the undefeated Wildcats, the Gaels pulled an upset by beating the favored Wildcats 41-21. The Gaels shut down the Wildcats in both phases. The Gaels running back Qadree Hubbard rushed 17 times for 220 yards and 3 touchdowns. Also through the air, Santos had 2 passing touchdowns.

In Friday’s contest, the St. Mary Gaels improve to 2-1 with the win over the Harrison Blue Tides 25-0. The Gaels defense shut down the Blue Tides in both phases. Qadree Hubbard led the team in tackles with 12. The Offense was led by Kyree Tyson with 19 carries and 130 yards and a touchdown.

In the Gaels home opener win against the Golden Bears of Lyndhurst, the Gaels got back on top with the win over Lyndhurst 40-13. The Gaels went up early and never looked back. On a Thursday opener against the Emerson Cavo’s, the Gaels of St. Mary suffered a tough loss 25-6. The Gaels fell behind early and never were able to get on track offensively. Stubborn defense kept St. Mary in the game but was not enough to overcome a well played game by the Cavo’s.

Rutherford-Senior Offensive Tackle, Brian Crockett of the 2008 St. Mary High School football team, has committed to attend Colgate University on a full grant scholarship.

An infusion of youth has St. Mary already aiming for a big season in 2009. The Gaels gave an indication of how bright their future is by turning in an explosive display against Wallington on Thursday.
