Why I Give Back to St. Mary

Ron & Mary Jo Higgins Alvarez, Class of 1953

“My wife and I both received a great Catholic education and want to help others achieve the same. We were taught respect, morality, truthfulness and hard work. We were well prepared to go on to higher education or pursue careers. St. Mary’s gives you the foundation for the future, prepares you for the obstacles ahead and leaves you unforgettable memories. That’s why we give; we Alumni have to give to keep this wonderful school going into the future.”

Joseph Fratangelo, Class of 1962

“An average student at best, I doubt I would have succeeded at North Carolina University Chapel Hill, or earned a BS in Sociology and a MS in Education without the foundation and benefit of 13 years of schooling at St. Mary’s. I was able to play Division 1 football at UNC and I attribute all my success to the teachers, coaches and former SM star athletes who came back to coach and mentor us throughout my ’61 and ’62 seasons. I see that same dedication today at SM and that’s why I give back.”

James O’Connor, Class of 2003

“St. Mary High School has been an enormous part of my accomplishments in my adult life. My father, Joseph ’77, always spoke of the SM alumni who have given back to our alma mater since he was a student in the 70’s. Their generosity continued to pave the way for me, my classmates, and teammates through the early 2000’s and now it’s my turn to do the same for current and future Gaels.”

Tom & Deb Wojcik Duffy, Class of 1978

“Tom and I give to SMHS because we want to help others gain a valuable asset, a quality education. We want others to have the wonderful memories that we enjoy, and also exhibit the pride that we have in our alma mater!”
