  • Purchase Of School Uniforms
  • Summer Reading Online
  • Summer School Registration
  • Improvements To SMHS Campus

Some of our students had perfect attendance, no tardies, detentions and no suspensions. This is a great improvement from past years. We salute these students and their parents or guardians for instilling in them the example of accountability and responsibility.

We are so proud of our students who attended the prom this year. They had a wonderful time and their behavior was phenomenal. The record of perfect attendance by ten o'clock on the day following the prom remains unbroken. What a tribute to our students and all of you!

All uniform needs, except for the phys-ed uniform may be purchased at CO-ED Uniforms in Elmwood Park, N.J. ALL PANTS MUST BE PURCHASED AT CO-ED. NO other pants are acceptable. Skorts length should touch just above the knee. School shoes are purchased there and should be done so well in advance before school begins in September. All students are to wear school blazers from November 1, 2008 to April 30, 2009. We do have blazers that were donated by seniors. If you would like to purchase a used blazer for $25.00 please go to the campus store.

Phys-ed uniforms may be purchased at our Dominican Campus Store during the summer. All incoming freshmen phys-ed uniforms may be picked up after July 16, 2008. Call me first at 201-933-5220 Ext. 210, or e-mail me at rberckes@stmaryhs.org.

ALL SUMMER READING IS NOW ONLINE. All work is due on the assigned dates. Please note the projects are to be done by the students as well as the reading, not the adults. Twenty percent of their first marking period grade is based on summer work. We are an academic facility proud to be college prep and will not settle for mediocre or missing assignments. Please encourage your child to pace themselves with their workload this summer, especially if they are going to summer school for enrichment classes or make up work.

Our summer school registration begins Wednesday, June 18 - Tuesday, June 24, from 12:00 noon - 3:00 p.m. Summer school begins Wednesday, June 25, 2008. If your child needs to attend, the information is enclosed for you or you can check the website for details.

Physicals for all students must be completed and returned by the first day of school. All Fall athletes must hand in their completed physical forms to their coach before the first day of practice.

The St. Joseph's Club has already painted St. Mike's wrestling room, bridge, gym entrance and Room 202 as we continue to expand and improve our facilities. A brand new resource room has replaced Fr. Chuck's office. He will move into the new offices under the church with Coach Sheridan. Coach Sheridan's office will become our new Dominican campus store.

Congratulations to our baseball team who are Baseball Non-Public B North Sectional Champions!

Throughout this summer, I ask all of you to continue to do as much as you can as a family. Monitor your child's activities, be careful who they hang out with on their spare time, set curfews and always attend church as a family. Sundays are family days!!!! Begin it with worshiping God and then spend time enjoying the summer together. Our students pray before meals at school and I trust you will continue that tradition at home.

Lastly, I thank all of you for every single thing you have done to make school life such a joy!! Your contributions and support are what keeps us going!! We are very viable, healthy, strong and ready for the coming years as a Roman Catholic high school because of you and your efforts. You give me every reason to thank God and say that. I love every minute in my assignment here. YES, the easy days are a blessing but so are the challenging ones. We learn from every given circumstance and must always see the positive in each situation.

Please continue to spread the good word about St. Mary's. Get the word out about our enhanced academic programs, athletics, extra-curricular activities, faculty and staff. They say our high school is the best kept secret in education in Bergen County. Get the secret out and make sure others know about us and are given the same opportunity for an excellent education, while we still have room for some more students.

Everyone wants to believe their children, however I have witnessed on some occasions that parents / guardians were in for a surprise when some, not many, stories are told a little different from what actually did occur. So in order for trust to be built in relationships, always be objective, honest, and love each other. After all, you are all you have, and are family, trust has to start somewhere. Tough love is never easy, but very essential when you have a teenager who thinks they know more than the rest of us.

In Notre Dame,

Dr. Robert A. Berckes
