Student Life

The life of a Saint Mary High School student incorporates a variety of aspects including academic, extracurricular, and service. Students encounter challenging academic classes, various athletic and after school club opportunities, as well as volunteer activities that are the essence of upstanding young men and women.

For over 89 years, Saint Mary High School as prided itself on developing students into successful men and women who use their abilities to better themselves and others. Students do not simply come to a high school; they become a part of this historic place, each somehow leaving an imprint upon the other.

SMHS Receives NJ Assembly Resolution

Saint Mary High School was recognized on Tuesday, February 27 by Assemblyman Gary Schaer and Rutherford Councilwoman Stephanie McGowan for our "Walkout Prayer Service" in solidarity with the students affected by the Parkland, FL school shooting.

The Resolution states "The General Assembly of the State of New Jersey is pleased to salute and commend the students and administrators of Saint Mary High School in the Borough of Rutherford, Bergen County, in recognition of their exceptional civic activism."

Thank you Assemblyman Schaer and Councilwoman McGowan.

Clubs and Organizations

Saint Mary High School offers a variety of clubs and organizations for students to participate in throughout the year in addition to athletics.

This year, the high school will be implementing a new "Activity Period," in which students will be able to join a club and participate in it during the normal school day. Students will have a variety of options to pick from and will choose one club for the first semester and a different club for the second semester.

Christian Service Hours

All students at St. Mary High School are required to complete 10 hours of Christian Service per year.

These acts of selflessly giving one's time and talent help mold our students into the future leaders of tomorrow as they follow in the footsteps of Jesus Christ. Not only do these actions help others, but allow students to realize their own God given potential in various ways.

Catholic Schools Week 2018 Catholic Schools Week celebrates how every Catholic school in the United States helps form our young men and women into leaders of tomorrow. SMHS celebrated this year's Catholic Schools Week with different events each day. Crazy Sock and Tie Day, Holy Mass with the Academy at St. Mary, SOUP-ER Bowl Day during which students wore their team's favorite jersey in exchange for a canned good for the Rutherford Food Pantry, a Volleyball Tournament to raise funds for Ryan's Buddies, and a Jeopardy Tournament were just some of the week's highlights.
