St. Mary High School is proud to announce the return of wrestling for the 2022-2023 winter season. This year is the first time in almost a decade that wrestling is being offered to our student-athletes. Previously, the Gaels had won six consecutive Non-Public North B state sectional titles (from 2002 to 2007), three District 16 titles and three BCSL National titles.
Leading the coaching staff for Gaels wrestling is Rickey Redd. Coach Redd graduated from Centenary University in 2008, where he wrestled from 2004-2008, was a three-year varsity starter, team captain for two seasons, and was a 2x Metropolitan Conference place finisher; 2nd (2006) and 3rd (2007). Coach Redd was ranked as high as 10th in the nation during his senior season and was a member of the first Centenary wrestling team in school history, to be ranked in the top 25 in the nation. Coach Redd wrestled for DePaul Catholic High School from 2000-2004 and was named team captain for his junior and senior seasons. While wrestling at DePaul, he was named First Team Iron Hills conference (2003), First Team All Passaic County (2004), and was a three-time Region 1 qualifier. As a team, DePaul finished second in the Parochial B North State finals in 2003 in 2004. Coach Redd finished his career at the DePaul with a record of 93-26.

After graduating from Centenary, Coach Redd coached for his hometown of Montclair. During his four seasons at Montclair High School, the team continued to improve, and Coach Redd contributed to the success of multiple District 14 place finishers, three Region 4 place finishers (two champions), and two state place finishers, as well as the Essex County 2010 Wrestler of the Year.
Joining the coaching staff of Don Bosco Prep in the 2012-2013 season, the team had four top 10 finishes (including three top 5), won the Virginia Duals (2014), and was ranked nationally in multiple polls. Coach Redd contributed to the success of several District 5 place finishers and champions, multiple Region 2 champions and places, as well as five individual state champions and over 15 state place finishers throughout his four seasons with the Ironmen.
Coach Redd joined the Pequannock HS staff during the 2016-2017 season. While coaching the Panthers, PTHS had a district champ in each of the 2019, 2020, and 2022 seasons, a region champ, 4 state qualifiers. Additionally, the team was the NJAC-Liberty Division Co-Champions 2019-2020. Coach Redd was also named District Assistant Coach of the Year 2 times.
