Become a Gael for a Day

Come and spend a day at St. Mary High School as a Gael for a Day! St. Mary offers this program to 7th and 8th grade students. You will be paired with a current student and follow their schedule. Gael for a Day participants will not only receive a free lunch and other St. Mary High School memorabilia, but experience to help make an informed decision when choosing a high school.

Gael for a Day Times

Gael for a Day appointments are available Monday through Friday.  The Gael for a Day experience is a full day program.  The day runs from 7:45 AM to 2:00 PM.

Note: Appointments may not be available on certain days, such as Minimum Days or certain holidays.

Do I have to wear a mask?

Yes, per Governor Phil Murphy’s executive order, all faculty, staff, students, and visitors to St. Mary High School, including Gaels for a Day, are required to wear a mask while in the building.

What time does my day start?

Your Gael for a Day experience starts at 7:45 AM. Once you arrive, you’ll be greeted by a member of the Admissions Department who will give you some information, introduce you to the student who you will follow, and give you your free lunch pass.

Is there a dress code that I have to follow?

We ask that you please wear your current school uniform. If your school does not have a uniform, please dress in business casual attire: dress shirts, slacks, blouses, dress, ties, and dress shoes. No jeans, hats, or sneakers.

Do I need to bring lunch?

No, you don’t need to bring lunch. You will be given a lunch pass for our cafeteria.

What time does my Gael for a Day experience end?

Your day will end at 2:00 PM. You’ll talk to a member of our Admissions Department to see how your experience went and to see if you have any questions.

Do I need to tell my school that I am going to be a Gael for a Day?

Yes, you should inform your school that you will be attending St. Mary High School for the day. We will also provide you with a letter stating that you attended on the scheduled day.

Can students looking to transfer be a Gael for a Day?

If you are interested in transferring to St. Mary High School and want to get the SMHS experience yourself, please call the Admissions Department at 201-933-5220 x 270.

Can international students be a Gael for a Day?

International students who are interested in being a Gael for a Day should contact the Admissions Department at 201-933-5220 x 270 to make accomodations.
