The St. Mary Athletic Hall of Fame grew out of the work of its founding committee members which began in the winter of 1994.
The committee members recognized the challenges, especially that of selecting the early classes, from an inventory of outstanding athletes, coaches and contributors. However, with tireless research and spirited discussion, the selection committee was able to compile a slate of inductees which represented over 60 years of St. Mary athletics. St. Mary and the Hall of Fame committee firmly consider the celebration of its athletic legacy an important part of a successful athletic program.
We hope the Athletic Hall of Fame embodies a mission statement about the significance of competitive athletics at St. Mary. It emerges, we believe, from the stories of competitors and teams, of young men and young women, true scholar-athletes, of records and teamwork, of character and contribution. Most of these stories distill down to students, training, competing, and pursuing excellence in the greater context of their St. Mary education. It is an exciting story of teamwork and accomplishment, and of such signature virtues as perseverance, courage, loyalty, teamwork and generosity.
We think the stories of our Hall of Famers weave an exciting tapestry. We hope our Website entertains and informs visitors and inspires current St. Mary athletes by reminding them that they are part of a rich and proud tradition.
