Meet Our New Director of Admissions at SM
It is with great excitement and heartfelt gratitude that I share the news that I have accepted the position of Director of Admissions at St. Mary High School. As a proud alum of St. Mary, returning to the place that shaped so much of who I am is both an honor and a joy. St. Mary has always been more than just a school- it’s a family rooted in faith, tradition, and excellence. I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to give back to the community that gave me so much, and to help the future students and families experience the same sense of belonging and purpose that guided my own journey here. It truly feels like coming home. I’m eager to work together to welcome the next generation of St. Mary Gaels.

Dear St Mary Family,
It is with great humility and gratitude that I introduce myself as the new Alumni Director of St.
Mary High School. I am deeply aware that I follow in the footsteps of a true legend, Mr. Michael
Sheridan, whose decades of dedication, leadership, and faith have left an indelible mark on our
school community. His legacy, and that of his family, is woven into the very fabric of St. Mary’s,
and I recognize the immense responsibility of carrying forward the tradition he built.
For me, this position is not just professional, it is personal. I am a proud graduate of the Class of
2016, and my family’s history at St. Mary is a point of great pride. My mother, Enrica Ricciuto
D’Alessandro (Class of 1984), and my aunt, Elisa Ricciuto (Class of 1986), are both alumni.
My brother, Jay D’Alessandro, graduated in 2022, and my youngest brother will graduate this
year, continuing our family’s longstanding commitment to the Gael tradition.
After graduating from St. Mary, I went on to study Political Science at Rutgers
University–Newark, earning both my bachelor’s and master’s degrees. Over the past several
years, I have been fortunate to teach here at St. Mary, coach our student-athletes, and now, step into this role with a deep sense of loyalty to the school that shaped me.
My guiding mission as Alumni Director is to honor and expand upon the values that have
defined St. Mary for generations—Small, Personal, Catholic. Including maximizing our current
strengths of diversity and close relationships to our future alumni. These words are more than a
motto; they are the lived experience of every student, teacher, and family member who has
walked through our doors. I will work tirelessly to strengthen connections across generations of
Gaels, to support our alumni community, and to ensure that the spirit of St. Mary continues to
inspire future students as it has inspired all of us.
I look forward to connecting with each of you, hearing your stories, and working together to
expand on the incredible alumni network already in place. Please know that I am open to your
ideas, feedback, and guidance as we move forward together.
Thank you for the warm welcome I have already received. Thank you to Coach Sheridan for his
mentorship. It is an honor to serve you and to build upon the legacy entrusted to us.

Rich “Cat” Vuyosevich Class of 1968 Memorial
Most of us grew up with the Vuyosevich family. We had Big George in gym class on Fridays in
grammar school and all-day Saturdays with Biddy League and CYO.
The legendary stories of Rich the “Cat” began in his high school days. I’m sure his classmates
and teammates can tell some good ones! Upon graduating from SM in ’68, Rich enrolled at
Farleigh Dickinson University where he studied education and played football. He later earned
his Masters Degree in Education at St. Elizabeth College.
In 1973, Rich joined Bruce Bartlett’s football staff as the Head Coach of the freshman team. He
assembled a staff of John Kelly ’68, Ken Swartz ’68, and Mark Steinberger RHS ’68.
The result: 9-0 perfect season!
In 1974, Rich moved up to the Varsity team under Coach Bartlett and two years later,
The result: 10-0 perfect season!
Rich always had tremendous love for the game of basketball. He joined the SM faculty in 1975
and became the Head freshmen coach.
The result: 22-1 season a Bergen County Freshman Tournament Championship.
In the early 80’s, Rich took a teaching position at Montville High School and became the school’s
basketball coach where he won two Morris County Coach of the Year Awards. Montville H.S.
named their basketball court in his honor to recognize his dedication and achievements during
his tenure there.
In 1990 Rich returned to St. Mary’s to revive a struggling basketball program. In his first year,
Rich led the Gaels to 20 wins and their first Bergen County Jamboree appearance in 15 years.
For his efforts, our inductee was named BCSL Olympic Coach of the Year. During his three-year
tenure as head coach, Rich compiled a sterling record of 57-17, and St. Mary’s basketball has
been vibrant and successful ever since.
Rich is a member of the NJSIAA Basketball Hall of Fame and St. Mary’s Athletic Hall of Fame. He
amassed over 300 career wins.
Sadly, this devoted SM Gael passed away suddenly in 2024. We, the alumni of St. Mary H.S.,
need to memorialize his decades long impact and legacy in a special way that would mean so
much to him and his family. Plans are underway to install two new scoreboards named in his
memory in the gymnasium that bears his father’s name. A fitting tribute to the man who
symbolizes the slogan: “WE ARE SM.”
